The wood care products market can be confusing. Every manufacturer produces a range of cleaners, oils, lacquers, maintenance products and repair solutions, and products from different systems aren't always interchangeable. Understanding what each product category does, and which ones suit the finish on your floor, makes caring for a wood floor considerably more straightforward.
This guide covers the main wood floor care product categories, explains what each is for, and points to established products in each category.
Daily Cleaners
Daily or weekly cleaning products for wood floors are pH-neutral solutions designed to clean the surface without affecting the finish. They remove dirt, dust, light grease and everyday grime without stripping the oil or lacquer beneath.
For lacquered floors, Bona Wood Floor Cleaner is a solid, widely used choice — it leaves no residue and doesn't affect the lacquer film. LobaCare Parkett Care serves a similar role for Loba-finished floors. For oiled floors, Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner cleans and gives a small amount of maintenance conditioning with each wash, while Bona Soap does the same job for Bona-oiled floors.
The critical point about daily cleaners is using the right product for the finish on your floor. Oil-based soaps used on lacquered floors leave residue. Products designed for lacquered floors used on oiled floors miss out on the light conditioning that oiled finishes benefit from.
Maintenance Oils and Top-Up Treatments
Oiled floors benefit from periodic maintenance oil applications, replenishing the oil in areas that have become depleted through cleaning and everyday use. Osmo Maintenance Oil, applied in a thin coat once or twice a year to high-use areas, keeps an oiled floor in excellent condition.
Bona Oiled Wood Floor Refresher does the equivalent job for Bona-oiled floors, and Junckers HP Oil Recoat is designed specifically for refreshing an already-oiled Junckers floor. Using the same brand for maintenance as the original finish helps ensure chemical compatibility and consistent colour.
Intensive Cleaners and Residue Removers
When standard cleaning leaves a film, or years of incompatible cleaning products have built up residue on the surface, an intensive cleaner is needed. Bona Polish Remover strips back old polish and build-up from lacquered floors. Osmo Intensive Cleaner is the equivalent for oil-finished floors, removing built-up grime without stripping the oil entirely.
These products aren't for routine use — they're more concentrated and more active than daily cleaners, and overuse can dull the floor surface. Use them only when the regular cleaner stops restoring the floor's appearance, then follow with a maintenance coat of oil, or a fresh lacquer coat, if needed.
Refresher Products
For oiled floors, a product like Osmo Wood Wax Finish or Bona Wax Oil Refresher can be applied as a refresh coat over a lightly sanded surface. This is simpler and less disruptive than refreshing a lacquered floor, and it's one of the genuine advantages of an oiled finish.

Repair Products
